If your body had needed milk as an adult, nature would have provided for it.

Having said that, if you like milk, feel free to have it, but be aware that according to your body type, it might not be digested well and lead to health issues.

Cow milk is more suitable for us than buffalo milk.

It’s best to get it fresh (unpasteurised) from a farmer, one who treats their cows kindly. If that’s out of reach for you, buy organic non-homogenised milk.

If you are not sure, see how you feel sometimes after having had milk or milk products. If you have felt strange in your stomach after overindulging in your favourite milk-based dessert, you should know that your body is not having a good time dealing with what you have just eaten and will not derive much nourishment from it.

In any case, don’t see it as essential.

Yoghurt, or even better, home-made curds is, in turn, good. It is easier to digest for most because of the chemical reactions that have taken place in the milk during the fermentation process. That means that your body is actually able to extracts nourishment from it. At the same time, it provides your body positive microflora. It is also more suitable for lactose intolerant people, as much of lactose is degraded because of bacterial activity.

Buttermilk, or lassi, the whey left over after butter has separated from beaten curds, is also great. But don’t go pick it up from the shops - that will not give you much nourishment.
