  1. Get physically exhausted during the day!
  2. Avoid coffee after 2 pm.
  3. Finish eating your last meal or snack of the day by sunset or about three hours before bedtime, so that your stomach is empty when you go to bed.
  4. Step outside for sunset for at least 2 minutes.
  5. If you like milk, consider having some with turmeric or nutmeg.
  6. Avoid switching the lights on after sunset. Use (beeswax) candles or diyas.
  7. Cultivate a relaxing routine. Incorporate at least some pranayama (breathing practices). Listen to podcasts or audio books or relaxing music, prepare your body for sleep by massaging (at least) your feet and head.
  8. Don’t keep TV in your bedroom.
  9. Leave your phone and computer outside your bedroom.

The general recommendations from Vastu are:

  1. The bedroom and the bed should be maintained neat and clean.
  2. Use light colours on the walls, curtains and bedding.
  3. Use natural material bedding, curtains and other upholstery.
  4. Use a natural material mattress protector. An old bed sheet will do. Change top sheets once a week.
  5. Sleep with your head towards the South. If that’s not possible, then towards the East.

If you are really having trouble, I would highly recommend getting a Vastu consultation. It is much safer than taking sleep medication.
