Eating should be a voluntary process. Not a compulsive one.

Sit at the table and eat a meal consciously and with a sense of involvement with the food and the people around you.

The quality, taste, smell and look of the food you are eating has a big impact, but how you consume it is equally important.

Be thankful. Also teach your children to be thankful for the food that has been served to them to consume. Make them aware of all the people who have been involved, right from farming to having it served to you ready to eat. Thank them.

Be aware that you are building your body with it. What you put into your mouth will become you. This will help you judge what to put into your mouth.

The fresher it is, the better. Food should be eaten within 1.5 hours after it has been cooked. Food older than six hours might still satisfy your senses, but will not really nourish your body.

Wait for two minutes after the food has arrived in front of you.

Eat according to your age and body type. If you are above 35, two meals a day are enough.

Eat soon after sunrise. The second meal can be between 12 and 2 pm. Have fruit in between meals if you like. Eat your last meal of the day at least 1.5 to 2 hours before sunset, so that by sunset, your stomach is mostly empty. This is also a good time to eat fruit, because it gets digested quickly. Make sure there is at least 4-5 hours gap between two meals.

If you have eaten too much, or have eaten something that makes you uncomfortable, skip the next meal.

Try to eat less - at least make it your long term goal.
