Berry Smoothies
Are you also into berry smoothies?
Yes, we have all heard that berries are superfoods.
Here are five reasons why your berry smoothie might not be doing the job you expect it to:
- Are they organic? Berries are among the most pesticide-sprayed fruit. If you are not sticking exclusively to organic berries, you are causing more harm to yourself than good. Also, remember that produce grown by conventional, factory farming practices is nutritionally deficient. They only look like the real thing. By the way, that is also why most of us today are nutritionally deficient. So, not only are you consuming much less nutrients than you would expect, you are also poisoning yourself.
- Did you buy them frozen? Science says that freezing food preserves it, and that is right to some extent. However, Ayurveda considers all frozen (and canned) food as lifeless. You might be able to get some nutrients, but not much.
- Are you having it cold? All cold food disrupts the digestive fire. As a result, the food goes down into the small intestine only partially digested and your body is not able to absorb as many nutrients as are available.
- Are you having your berry shake in deep winter? Your body is living in winter, while the food you put in screams summer. There are reasons nature provides different kinds of food at different times of the year. The foods nature makes available to us are those that are supportive to our health during that time of the year. So any food that you have out of season will do more harm than good. It’s as simple as that.
- Are you having a berry milk shake? Milk and fruit don’t make good partners for digestion. They should always be consumed separately.
