The most basic and the most robust way of supporting your health according to Ayurveda is to eat what your ancestors were eating.

Think about what varieties of grains, fruit and vegetables your ancestors ate in the geographical locations they lived in.

Many different varieties of grain and millets have been eaten through the ages. Some of them still exist and are making a comeback in the mass market. The more we ask for them, the more easily they will become available.

Fruit and vegetable varieties have also become very limited. Think about ways to incorporate more varieties of all food that you eat.

Find time and place for growing at least some of your own food. Always start with organic seeds. Look for heirloom varieties.

If you have moved away from the lands of your ancestors, have food that grows in your new location. Have food with the least food miles.

Have only seasonal produce.

Eat organic. Don’t think about the money that you pay for it. You are building your body and your life consequences with it. It will buy you many years of health span - and save you money on hospital horrors.

Have wild foods - there are many forgotten varieties that are not grown commercially any more. If you have access to land, grow these and do yourself, the coming generations and the earth a favour.

If you choose to eat meat, have it from native breeds raised on pastures, fed grass (not soya or corn).

Have traditionally made fermented foods. Make them at home. Store bought sauerkraut doesn’t count! There are lots of resources on the internet, but it’s best to first ask your parents and grandparents.
